provide safe esthetics and cosmetology services for consumers

The Issue

Consumers in New York State deserve to have safe and effective services provided for them by licensed professionals. Recently the state board has restricted what services are allowed to be offered by professionals who are trained to offer these services safely. Preventing consumers from receiving these services may push consumers to unsafe do-it-yourself products, where people run a higher risk of injury.

These recent changes are a matter of economic justice. Preventing estheticians and other licensed beauty professionals from providing these services adversely impacts small businesses, small businesses owned by women of which a significant number are women of color, and businesses that were also adversely impacted during the pandemic closures and the slow recovery.

Estheticians, cosmetologists, and other licensed beauty professionals are working to restore their scope of practice in order to offer these services. We the undersigned are consumers and supporters of their efforts. We want and deserve the beauty services that we have been safely receiving years previously, and wish to continue to support our beauty professionals.
