Provide Lighting at Lumberton City Park

The Issue

The individuals and families that enjoy the Lumberton City Park are at risk. With daylight hours being shortened, many people who go to the park regularly are complaining about how dark some of the areas of the park are, and that is causing feelings of anxiety and a loss of the sense of safety. We are asking to have more adequate lighting for the public at the Lumberton City Park. Many people of all ages come to the park and some aren't able to until later in the day. The Lumberton City Park provides a great outlet for families and individuals alike, but it would provide a greater sense of comfort for everyone if there weren't so many poorly lighted areas of the park. Some individuals that walk the park alone are no longer attending because they don't feel safe when the sun begins to set. The skatepark is also in desperate need of adequate lighting. With our daylight hours being shortened, many individuals can no longer make use of the beautiful ramps, rails, and halfpipes that the City of Lumberton has so graciously provided us with because there is too great of a risk for injury when they can't be seen. More than just a park, Lumberton City Park provides an environment that facilitates individual freedom of expression, a place of sanctuary, and a center for bonding community members. Please sign this petition so that we may present the City Council with evidence that our community needs increased lighting at our lovely park, and to show that it is in their best interest to strengthen the community by displaying acknowledgement of our need. Thank you and God bless!
