Kisii Town is struggling with both garbage and water pollution endangering the lives and well being of Kisii residents. The eyesore in the form of litter can be seen in the city center and estates. The pollution can be in part attributed to poor waste management ranging from non-existing garbage collection systems to ineffective disposal which in turn causes air pollution, water and soil contamination. Waste segregation and enforcement of waste management can indeed make Kisii Town cleaner and greener.

Article 42 assures Kenyans of a clean and healthy environment as a basic right.

This petition demands;

1. Provision of waste receptacles by the County Government of Kisii and labelling them clearly for easy separation of waste generated at household level. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 enhanced the momentum on waste management. 

2. Proper management of designated landfills by the County Government of Kisii. 

3. Intensive sensitisation by both the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and County Health officials on dissuading residents from setting up latrines next to water bodies.
