The Issue

Who is impacted?

Thousands of students studying at colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) are directly impacted by the lack of access to their individual marks ledger through the official Student Identity Manager (SIM) portal. Without access to this crucial document, students are left dependent on their respective colleges, which often delay or deny requests for marks ledgers, causing significant stress and uncertainty. This creates obstacles when applying for jobs, higher education, scholarships, or academic verifications—where detailed subject-wise marks are often mandatory. Many students also face difficulty identifying errors in evaluation, as they cannot view or verify their complete performance records independently. The absence of digital access to the marks ledger disproportionately affects students from rural areas or under-resourced colleges, who may lack the means to make repeated visits to college offices.

What is at stake?

If the current system remains unchanged, students will continue to face unnecessary delays, lack of transparency, and restricted access to their own academic records—violating their right to information and academic autonomy. This opaque process undermines trust in the university system and creates barriers to career and educational opportunities. However, if marks ledgers are made accessible through the Student Identity Manager portal, it will mark a significant step toward transparency, efficiency, and student empowerment. It will ensure timely access to authenticated academic records, reduce administrative burden on colleges, and uphold students' right to access their own information. This small change can have a massive impact—helping students take control of their future with confidence and clarity.

Why is now the time to act?

Now is the time to act because digital access to academic records is no longer a luxury—it is a basic necessity in today’s education system. As more universities across India embrace transparency and digitization, SPPU must not fall behind. With the Student Identity Manager portal already in place, the infrastructure exists; only the will to implement student-friendly reforms is needed. Delaying this change continues to deny students timely access to their rightful information. Immediate action will not only align SPPU with national education transparency goals but also send a strong message that the university values accountability, fairness, and student rights. This is a critical moment to modernize academic services and make them truly student-centric.
