As the Association of Iranians in Iceland, we have witnessed the challenges many Persian-speaking residents face when attempting to pass the Icelandic driving theory test. Despite their desire to integrate and contribute to the community, they encounter significant hurdles simply because the test and official study materials are not available in Persian.

This language barrier not only affects their ability to secure driving licenses but also impedes their access to opportunities that can enhance their quality of life in Iceland. Driving is often essential for employment, education, and daily activities. By providing the driving theory test and study materials in Persian, we can ensure equal opportunities for all residents, regardless of their linguistic background.

Statistics show that a significant portion of the immigrant population in Iceland consists of Persian-speaking individuals. Their contribution to the economy and cultural diversity of Iceland is invaluable. However, the lack of access to driving resources in their native language creates a barrier that can hinder their successful integration.

Moreover, road safety should be a priority for all road users regardless of their language abilities. When individuals thoroughly comprehend traffic laws and regulations, it contributes to safer roads for everyone. Multi-language access to these critical resources can significantly reduce misinterpretations of road rules, which might lead to accidents.

Countries around the world have adopted multi-language testing systems to accommodate diverse populations and affirm their commitment to inclusivity. Implementing such a system in Iceland would not only align with global best practices but also reflect Iceland's values of fairness and accessibility.

We propose the following actions: 1) Translate and provide the Icelandic driving theory test and official study materials in Persian, 2) Offer Persian-speaking support instructors to help learners, and 3) Allocate resources to ensure ongoing updates and accuracy of translated materials.

We urge the Icelandic government and relevant transportation agencies to take immediate action in this matter. Ensuring that all Iceland residents have the ability to legally and safely drive should be a priority.
