Provide free parking for Riley Children's Hospital patients

Provide free parking for Riley Children's Hospital patients
The Issue
The issue: Starting March 1st, Riley outpatient families will need to pay $5 to park in any of the parking garages. Before, these parking tickets were being validated making parking free of charge for those families with appointments. Some families visit Riley multiple times a week, whether it's a Dr's appointment, therapy appointment, a trip to the lab, or even to get a medication from the pharmacy. $5 adds up!
Why it matters: I am a parent of a medically complex child who requires frequent visits to Riley Children's Hospital. Our numerous weekly appointments would mean we will be accumulating a significant cost just in parking fees. This $5 charge might seem small individually, but it adds up quickly over multiple visits. Many families like ours are already burdened with overwhelming medical expenses and logistical challenges. This additional cost becomes another hurdle.
Riley Children's Hospital serves as a beacon of hope for countless families in Indiana, providing specialized care to thousands of children each year. However, the financial strain on families who have to visit regularly undermines the support the hospital is trying to provide. Patients who need to visit this institution for outpatient services should not have to face this added financial burden.
The solution: We urge the administrative board of Riley Children's Hospital consider implementing a policy for free parking. Solutions could include validating parking tickets for the families of both inpatient and outpatient children, or establishing a discounted parking pass for families with frequent visits.
This small change can contribute positively to the well-being and financial relief of many families struggling under the weight of medical challenges. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a more compassionate healthcare experience for all families undergoing the stress of caring for a sick child. Let's ease this burden and make Riley Children's Hospital a place of healing and support in every sense of the word. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
