The Issue

Music activities, whether it be piano, drums, or composing, can be expensive due to the costly tools and lessons required. Oftentimes, this means children with special needs or children under medical care cannot receive musical enrichment which can positively effect them according to research.

Why do children need music?

When my mom was a teenager, she was often hospitalized due to her poor health. She ended up bored and lonely in the hospital, missing school and piano lessons. This unfortunately lowered her motivation and mental health, causing her to fall behind in school when she returned. Especially since she was in high school, her mental health was crucial for her future; exams determined her college, which was future for her future career and ambitions.

A proper support system during her hospital stay could have significantly improved her experience. My mom and her story inspired me to start this organization along with my experience in music and interest in biology. Since the age of three, I have been playing the piano, and started composing classical music when I was around eight. Last, year, in freshman year, I took my first biology class; despite being the hardest class, it was my favorite, as the human body is so complex yet interconnected. Recently, an undergraduate friend introduced me to her major, music therapy, which was perfect for me because it combined my two biggest passions to form Melody Remedy.
