Provide Free Menstrual Products at Marcus High School

Provide Free Menstrual Products at Marcus High School
The Issue
Women's health should never be a barrier to education, and all girls deserve free access to essential products like pads and tampons. This is not just a want; it’s a fundamental need, and our high school has the responsibility of ensuring that every girl feels comfortable and ready to learn.
In Flower Mound, Texas, our high school can take a bold step forward by supplying free pads and tampons in all girls' restrooms. This initiative would not only promote inclusivity but also uphold the dignity and comfort of each student. An American woman will spend, on average, up to $18,000 in her lifetime on menstrual products. By providing these for free at school, we relieve an unnecessary financial burden from students and their families.
Research shows that inadequate access to menstrual products can severely impact a student's performance and education. In fact, one in four students struggle to afford menstrual products. Without them, they may miss classes or even feel ashamed in educational settings. We shouldn’t have to reduce our comfort and ability to learn because of something we have no control over.
Furthermore, schools across the country have successfully implemented similar policies, and there's no reason why Marcus High School can't follow suit. States California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Washington, as well as DC, have passed laws to facilitate access to menstrual supplies in schools, setting a precedent that our community should embrace.
All those who experience a menstrual cycle deserve to attend school without worrying about having the necessary menstrual supplies. By joining together and advocating for this change, we can ensure that every young woman in our high school has equal access to education and can focus on what truly matters – their learning and personal development. Let's break the stigma and prioritize our students' well-being by providing free menstrual products.
Sign this petition to urge our local school authorities and the board of education to take responsibility and make free pads and tampons available in all girls' restrooms at Marcus High School. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of many students. Together, we can create a fair and supportive educational environment for all.
