The Issue

Living in Pender County is where  my elderly aunt, elderly uncle and disabled sister resides. Clean and safe water should be a basic need met without question. Yet, their daily lives are burdened by the inadequacy of  well water, which is tainted with rust and unsuitable for consumption. We are forced to purchase bottled water to meet essential needs such as cooking, cleaning, and basic hydration. This is both costly and unsustainable.

Their are many challenges such as routine tasks, from doing dishes to laundering clothes, are inhibited by the orange stains and mineral deposits left by the iron-rich well water. The health implications and inconvenience are mounting, and with aging family members who deserve dignity and proper care, access to county water is not just a request; it’s a necessity.

Tapping into county water would drastically improve their quality of life by providing them with a reliable source of clean water. The Environmental Protection Agency emphasizes the importance of access to clean water for the prevention of waterborne diseases and maintaining hygiene, especially for the elderly and disabled.

Moreover, clean water is vital for overall community health improvement. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the access to safe drinking water significantly reduces the incidence of diarrheal diseases. By installing infrastructure for county water access, we would not only meet EPA guidelines but uplift the health standards of our entire neighborhood.

Therefore, we call upon the Pender County Water Authority and local government officials to prioritize water line extension projects to encompass our neighborhood. It’s essential that they provide sustainable solutions that enable everyone in our area to access county water as swiftly as possible. Investing in this infrastructure now can prevent future health costs and improve the quality of life for all residents.

Please join us by signing this petition to demonstrate the need for urgent action. Your support can help transform our living conditions, ensuring that our well-being and dignity are preserved through safe and accessible water for all.
