Provide Climbing facilities in Basingstoke

Provide Climbing facilities in Basingstoke
The Issue
Basingstoke needs a climbing wall!!!
People from Basingstoke who want to take up climbing as a sport have to travel around an hour each way to access facilities in Reading, Southampton or Guildford (depending on time of day).
My sons have had to give up their climbing lessons which they absolutely loved because we can no longer face the hour or more of driving each way to get to lessons in Southampton on a school night...
The people in Basingstoke are missing out on accessing this amazing developing Olympic sport, which has enormous mental and physical health benefits.
Three separate climbing walls have now approached us saying that they would like to build facilities in Basingstoke but have faced planning issues with the council and logistical challenges finding tall enough buildings - Basingstoke Council owns the majority of industrial buildings - where climbing walls usually set up - so is uniquely positioned to solve this issue.
We have also heard from a number of parties interested in investing in a local climbing wall! All that's missing is a building!
A large up and coming, geographically well connected town like Basingstoke deserves and is the ideal location for a commercially successful climbing wall which will be an enormous benefit for local people!
Please join us in making our voices heard that the people of Basingstoke want and deserve a proper climbing wall where young (and old) people can get properly involved in the sport (ie - not a clip and climb which offers no scope for development as a climber)
We will be taking this petition to the council in February, so share as widely as you can please and consider joining us when we present it!
Please also contact your local Councillor by email and make sure to copy in Councillor Kerry Morrow who is Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture and recently (inaccurately) told council colleagues that there is no appetite for a climbing wall in Basingstoke.
