Stillbirth or miscarriage affects 1 in 4 pregnancies.  Many families have no idea what to do or who to turn to when this happens.  Often times,  the mother will go to the hospital to give birth to their dead child.  After birth,  decomposition happens very quickly.  Some hospitals have cooling units,  called Caring Cradles or Cuddle Cots. These cooling units preserve the baby for longer so families can say goodbye.  When you have a living child,  you have years to make memories but loss families only have a short time.  These cooling units are crucial for families. Many don't know the benefits or how to ask to use one,  if the hospital even has them available. 

I am urging all hospitals to have a cooling unit on their labor and delivery floor. Cooling units provide dignity for families during their unimaginable loss. 

If you have met someone who has lost a child,  I can assure you that they would have appreciated more time with their baby. 

We must act now to get Healthcare systems to acknowledge the importance of cooling units for families!
