Provide animal rehabilitation services in the USA
Provide animal rehabilitation services in the USA
The Issue
Three days ago, my family faced a heart-wrenching decision that no family should ever have to make. We had to say goodbye to our son’s beloved emotional support dog, Rex. Not because it was his time, but because there were no accessible animal rehabilitation services available to help him. This tragedy is not only our family’s story, but a tale that echoes across countless homes in the United States every day.
Animal rehabilitation services are critical for the proper care and recovery of pets who may face injuries or behavioral issues. Such services are essential not only to ensure the well-being of our pets but also to support families who rely on these animals for love, companionship, and emotional support. Currently, the lack of comprehensive and affordable rehabilitation services means that too many families have to make the unbearable decision of euthanizing their pets, animals who could otherwise recover with proper care.
The American Pet Products Association reports that 67% of U.S. households, or about 85 million families, own a pet. Yet, despite this overwhelming need, affordable rehabilitation services remain a significant gap in the services available to pet owners. With each case like Rex’s, there is a ripple effect - emotional distress for families, a sense of loss and helplessness, and a gap in the support that these animals provide.
To address this, we need legislation that mandates the establishment of animal rehabilitation services across the United States. This could be facilitated by federal and state subsidies that encourage veterinary clinics to expand their services, as well as partnerships with non-profits dedicated to animal welfare. Investment in training programs for rehabilitation practitioners is also urgently required to ensure these services are available in both urban and rural communities.
Families like mine should not be forced to make such devastating decisions because of a lack of resources. Animals like Rex deserve a chance to heal and thrive, bringing joy and comfort to their owners. By signing this petition, you advocate for a future where rehabilitation is part of our standard care practices for animals, reducing the unnecessary euthanasia of beloved pets.
Please join us in demanding change to save innocent lives and prevent other families from suffering this kind of loss. Sign this petition to support the establishment of animal rehabilitation services nationwide.
