Just FIVE months ago, I launched a student-led campaign with the help of Harvey Epstein, an Assembly Member from the Lower East Side.

Our first focus was to eliminate student half-fare MetroCards and replace them with full three ride passes. Providing equitable transportation to students is vital to desegregating schools, vital to providing equal opportunity for all, and vital to the well-being of hundreds of thousands of students.

The MTA and DOE have recognized the injustice present in current MetroCard policy, and we thank them for stepping up and and taking on the role necessary to dismantle it.

Today, the MTA approved the proposal to eliminate half-fare student passes and replace them with full fare cards. It is expected to go into effect September of 2019.

We thank you all for your hard work and organizing efforts that made this possible! However, the work is not over. This is just the first step in gaining transportation justice for students.
