Provide access to Yorvipath for Australians with permanent hypoparathyroidism

The issue

Living with permanent hypoparathyroidism after thyroid cancer treatment is a lifelong medical challenge. Yorvipath is the only therapy that can replace the hormone my body, and many others', can no longer produce. Despite TGA approval for Yorvipath, it remains inaccessible in Australia.

Without proper hormone replacement, people with hypoparathyroidism must rely on high-dose calcium and active vitamin D. These do not restore normal physiology and often cause kidney damage, unstable calcium levels, fatigue, cognitive issues, and cardiovascular strain. Managing these preventable complications is ultimately more costly to individuals and the health system than providing effective treatment.

Where Yorvipath is available, patients experience more stable calcium control, improved daily functioning, and fewer hospital visits. Australians living with this rare condition deserve access to the same safe and effective therapy so they can maintain their health, independence, and capacity to contribute to their communities.
