Soutenons la Fondation Chelsea - Protégeons nos terrains récréatifs

Nous soussignés, résidents de Chelsea, accueillons favorablement la construction d'une nouvelle école primaire francophone à Chelsea. Une nouvelle école francophone est non seulement nécessaire pour notre communauté mais aurait dû être construite depuis longtemps.

Cependant, nous sommes consternés que la municipalité et le Centre des services scolaires proposent de prendre 4 acres* (mise-à-jour) de terrains récréatifs appartenant à la Fondation Chelsea pour accommoder la nouvelle école. 

Pour nous ceci est inacceptable.

Ces terrains ont été acquis il y a deux décennies grâce à la prévoyance de la Fondation Chelsea et à la générosité des résidents Chelsea et de la famille Meredith. Ils ont été acquis par les résidents pour répondre aux besoins récréatifs de la communauté, à perpétuité.

L'intégrité de ces terres doit être protégée.

Il s'agit de biens communautaires uniques et irremplaçables, appartenant à et gérés par la communauté, au cœur même du centre-village. 

Il est extrêmement regrettable que la municipalité n'ait pas fait l'acquisition d’un terrain approprié pour une nouvelle école lors de son approbation des trois grands projets de lotissement résidentiels dans le centre-village.   

Cependant, la Fondation Chelsea ne devrait pas avoir à supporter le fardeau du manque de prévoyance de la municipalité et du Centre des services scolaires en matière de planification.

Forcer un organisme de bienfaisance à céder ses biens constituerait également un précédent déplorable.

Nous demandons donc que la municipalité informe immédiatement le Centre des services scolaires des portages de l’Outaouais que les terrains de soccer de la Fondation Chelsea sont intouchables et qu'un autre site plus approprié doit être trouvé pour la nouvelle école.

 

*Cette pétition mentionnait originalement "jusqu'à 10 acres" mais nous savons maintenant que la Municipalité veut en acquérir 4.

 

Support the Chelsea Foundation – Protect our recreational lands

We, the undersigned residents of Chelsea, welcome the news that a new francophone elementary school will be built in Chelsea. A new French school is much needed in the community and long overdue.

However, we are appalled that the Municipality and the School Board are proposing to take 4 acres* (updated) of community recreational lands belonging to the Chelsea Foundation to accommodate the new school.

This is unacceptable to us.

These lands were acquired two decades ago thanks to the foresight of the Chelsea Foundation and the generosity of Chelsea residents and the Meredith family. They were meant to meet the long-term recreational needs of the community, in perpetuity.

The integrity of these lands must be protected.

They are unique and irreplaceable community assets under community ownership and stewardship in the very heart of the Centre Village. 

It is extremely unfortunate that the Municipality did not acquire ANY suitable land for the new school when it approved the three large, new residential developments in the Centre Village.   

However the Chelsea Foundation cannot be expected to bear the brunt of the lack of planning foresight by the Municipality and the School Board.

Pushing a charitable organization off its land would also set a deplorable precedent.

We therefore request that the Municipality immediately inform the Centre des services scolaires des portages de l’Outaouais (CSSPO) that the Chelsea Foundation lands cannot be touched and that another, more suitable site must be found for the new school.

 

*This petition originally stated "up to 10 acres" but now we know that the Municipality wishes to acquire 4 acres.
