Protest the closure of the back nine on Lake Quivira golf course
The Issue
As dedicated members of the Lake Quivira Country Club, we find ourselves deeply concerned about the temporary closure and landscaping remodel of the back nine on our beloved golf course. This closure affects a significant number of our members, particularly those who rely on the golf course for recreation, exercise, and community connection throughout the winter months.
Beyond being a space for sport and leisure, the back nine holds a special place in the hearts of club members – especially for those of us who are off-lake members without voting rights. We pay our dues every month with the anticipation of uninterrupted access to the facilities, including the full golf course. The notion of closing half the course while the clubhouse undergoes a renovation further limits the available amenities and leaves us, particularly off-lake members who cannot participate in the decision-making, feeling disregarded.
The decision to remodel the clubhouse critically impacts those of us who depend on the course as our primary recreational outlet. The disruption not only affects our weekly routines but also the value we derive from our membership dues. With the clubhouse renovation already limiting other facilities, losing access to the full golf course compounds the issue.
We acknowledge the necessity of maintaining and improving our facilities for the future enjoyment of all members. However, we urge the board to consider alternatives that would allow for the back nine to remain open during this period. Possible alternatives could include:
- Phasing the landscaping work outside of peak usage times, minimizing disruption to member activities.
- Implementing temporary course modifications to ensure that the full course remains playable.
- Offering a reduction or adjustment in monthly dues during the period when members are unable to access the full suite of club amenities.
We believe that by adopting a more flexible approach, the board can honor the commitment to serve all members' interests, regardless of their voting status.
We call upon Lake Quivira Country Club's leadership to reconsider the timing and implementation of the back nine's closure to better align with the needs and expectations of its membership. Please sign this petition to support our request for keeping the back nine open for use during the winter months.
