Protest Against Private Refuse Facility in El Paso County Residential Area

Protest Against Private Refuse Facility in El Paso County Residential Area

The Issue

Arial view of proposed site.

A proposed private refuse facility (Heavy Trash Vehicle storage) has seen the beginnings of development in a residential neighborhood.

The obvious ramifications of this come in the form of noise and smell, however we have concerns about several other implications.

Firstly, the details covering the company responsible for managing this project are scarce. All we can infer is that this won't even have anything to do with the Garbage Collection vehicles that come to mind (the ones that pick up your trash)

Secondly, despite their promise of "No collection of waste on premise" it's not a question to anybody that the empty trucks themselves would be an issue themselves even without waste. However, they are also collecting the CONTAINERS for storing waste, which furthers the impact.

Thirdly, noise is an obvious issue. Generally garbage collection vehicles start their day before 6AM - and if this facility comes to pass, everyday at ~5AM a fleet of vehicles would start their engines at the same time.

Personally, we live within 200ft of this proposed facility. The thought of every day, without fail, a fleet of trucks starting outside my window sounds unpleasant, and not very homey. Not only that, but down the street is a D11 Food center. Yikes.

If you are a resident of El Paso County, Colorado Springs I urge you to vote NO on this project, despite the late deadline. Signing this petition allows us to provide reputable proof that the community has no interest in storing some private companies garbage vehicles.

If you are not a resident, but still agree that this seems like an irresponsible decision from the city, signing this petition still strengthens our argument for when we bring it to the city.

I appreciate your time spent reading this, see the attached images for details on the project plans/scope. All signees are appreciated!
