Protection of Personal Data

Protection of Personal Data
The Issue
This problem affects every one of us. Our personal data is being captured every instant, without our knowledge or consent, through technology devices that we use incessantly. These are not only personal data like date of birth, name, address, sex, nationality but include our choices in given circumstances, our financial means, our food preferences, our daily routines, our mode of travel and the routes we take, our interaction with our children and friends, our language familiarity, the number of hours we sleep at night, our health, fitness and medical information and the plans we make for work and leisure. We acknowledge that it is necessary to share necessary data for making our lives efficient and progressive, healthy and for improving productivity in our lives, for employment and governance.
With the advent of AI, the data collection is burgeoning, because data is required for AI training. Technology companies' growth requires them to capture more and more data and the easiest data to capture is personal data. Each one of us is unique in our approach to life and that uniqueness is captured by AI. Technology companies are collecting our personal conversations 24 hours a day using "Active Listening" and other techniques. This results in surveillance of our lives through our phones, laptops and other devices. The end-result is that our personal/psychological profiles are being captured and stored on the cloud owned by technology companies. This data can be sold, hacked or used for misguided and damaging purposes. We can be impersonated, defrauded and our identities stolen and cloned. We can lose our liberty, jobs and be accused of crimes that we may not have committed. If things continue in this manner, we will not be able to protect our uniqueness and individualities. We will lose the most important fundamental right to privacy, free choice and free will.
Just like we protect our homes and valuables, we require to protect our own sensitive personal data. This cannot be done if the data is stored on cloud data centers. We require technology companies to modify their designs and architectures to store and process our sensitive personal data only on our personal device without any exception. We require governments to bring laws to make storage and processing of personal data mandatorily only on the individual’s personal device.
