Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. It’s heartening to see how much care there is for the wellbeing of the birds and the wider area.

We have now reviewed the Ecological Impact Assessment relating to the rail arches, which does acknowledge the presence of numerous roosting feral pigeons in the area, as well as the potential for year-round nesting. The assessment is framed primarily around legal compliance and conservation status.

The Ecological Impact Assessment is publicly available here: via the council Planning Application for the redevelopment and is listed as as “20240522-204936010 – EcIA v3 – St James Quarter, Courtenay Place & Arches.”

Following this, we have written to the local councillor to seek further clarity on how pigeon welfare will be considered in practice across both the public realm works and the redevelopment of the rail arches, including how any bird-proofing measures will be implemented.

This petition is not intended to oppose regeneration, but to encourage transparency, humane practice, and constructive dialogue. We will continue to engage positively and keep residents informed as the conversation progresses.

We also note that the council has advertised a public drop-in event regarding the Courtenay Place and St James Street improvement works on Wednesday 11 February 2026, 5:15–7pm at The Mill, 7–11 Coppermill Lane, E17 7HA, for anyone who would like to attend and ask questions directly.

The Mill has published accessibility information on their website. The venue has step free ground floor access, an accessible toilet, and welcomes assistance dogs. The front door is not power assisted but staff can assist on arrival. Further access details are available on The Mill’s website for anyone who would like to check in advance.
