Protecting Our Rights: An Oregon for Israel Petition

The Issue

As Oregonians who love Israel, whether members of the Jewish and Israeli American communities or allies, we stand united in our commitment to upholding fundamental rights that ensure our safety, existence, and acknowledgment of the complexity within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Considering rising antisemitism, we call upon our local leaders to take action to maintain three core rights:

o   The Right to Exist: We assert our right, as individuals and as a community, to exist without fear or prejudice. Just as we recognize the rights of all peoples for self-determination, we affirm that Jewish and Israeli Americans have the same right to exist and thrive peacefully. This mirrors the situation in the conflict zone, where Israel's right to exist does not negate Palestinians' right to self-determination.

o   The Right for Safety: Recent events have highlighted the need for a safe environment for Jewish and Israeli Americans in Oregon. The demographic and political landscape in Oregon pose a possible risk for Jewish people as antisemitism rises. While we cherish freedom of speech, it should not come at the expense of others' safety. We urge leaders to uphold constitutional and civil laws to maintain physical and psychological safety for all.

o   The Right for Complexity: Acknowledging the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is essential. Loving Israel does not mean ignoring past mistakes or disregarding the plight of the Palestinian people. We embrace this complexity while advocating for peace, combating terrorism, and seeking viable solutions to end violence in the region.

In the conflict zone we call for:

CEASE FIRE deescalate ALL SIDES hold a WHITE flag!

Free All the Hostages: The kidnapping and hostage-taking of civilians by Hamas constitute grave violations of international law and basic human rights. On October 7th, Hamas perpetrated a heinous act of terrorism, resulting in the murder of over 1400 civilians and the abduction of 250 innocent individuals. These hostages, including elderly, women, teenagers, children, and men, have endured unimaginable suffering and sexual abuse while held captive by Hamas militants. It is crucial to distinguish between deliberate acts of violence by Hamas and the unavoidable casualties of conflict. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are engaged in a challenging battle against Hamas militants, while minimizing harm to civilians. We urge the immediate release of all hostage and call upon the international community to condemn these violations of human rights.

Release All civilians hostages on both sides

Seek peace : Hamas, prioritizes violence over peace, endangering both Israeli and Palestinian lives. Hamas leaders have amassed personal fortunes while their constituents endure poverty and suffering. Billions of dollars in aid intended for the Palestinian people have been diverted to fund the construction of tunnels and missiles aimed at targeting civilians, perpetuating a cycle of violence and despair. Addressing that is crucial for achieving peace and coexistence.

Free Palestinians from Hamas: Palestinians in Gaza deserve freedom from Hamas tyranny, which subjects them to terror and oppression. While Israel seeks to defend its citizens from Hamas aggression, it also recognizes the suffering of the Palestinian population under Hamas rule. Ceasing fire without disarming Hamas only prolongs the cycle of violence. Ending Hamas's grip is essential for peace and reconciliation in the region. International support is needed to liberate Palestinians from Hamas control and pave the way for a brighter future.

By signing this petition, we demonstrate our collective voice and call upon policymakers and leaders to prioritize the protection of these rights. Together, we can foster a more inclusive and secure environment for all Oregonians.
