Protect your pet and our wildlife, say no to Australia’s wildlife as pet food.
The issue
Firstly, is signing a waste of my time? Absolutely not. Petitions are one of the only ways that an individual or group can ask parliament to do something, and are one of the most impactful ways to get an organisation or a business to make changes - they DO make a difference.
Secondly, did you also know Kangaroos have the ability to communicate with humans, like dogs do? These marsupials are super smart, social, and affectionate creatures.
Also that, Kangaroo meat is also said to contain the highest level of bad bacteria out of all consumption meats, and this can be very dangerous for your cat or dog!
Kangaroos are not farmed for pet food. They are shot from the wild at night by hired shooters. Their bodies are stored and transported in open trucks. They are exposed to dirt, flies and other insects before they are transported to mobile refrigerators known as chillers.
Often the kangaroos are not killed by the first bullet and can even have limbs blown off, and suffer other horrific injuries. The young joeys who are too small for meat are bludgeoned to death as a ‘humane’ solution to prevent them starving to death without their mum.
It is said that, 1 kangaroo also eats only between 20% - 70% of 1 50kg sheep (70% being seen as grossly overstated by the CSIRO), and about 18 kangaroos eat as much 1 cow, and up 30 kangaroos for 1 bull.
Another big misconception is that kangaroos meat is sustainable. The impact of the bushfires, droughts, farming, and vehicle strikes have reportedly seen a plummet in Kangaroo numbers. It is important to also remember that the Koala was almost hunted into extinction, until it was made illegal to hunting them. We also hunted the Tasmanian Tiger into oblivion.
There are lots of good reason to stop the cruel and senseless slaughter of kangaroos in the wild for pet food. Please protect our kangaroos and your pets health, and together we can ban the slaughter of wildlife for pet food, please sign.
