Like many others, I see Yosemite as a symbol of the beauty and spirit of the United States, and I hope to experience its wonder firsthand someday.

Unfortunately, this unique natural wonder is facing potential threats from private development interests. The National Park Service is considering a land exchange between the park and a private Nevada-based developer. According to reports, the exchange would allow the developer to build a road providing easier access to an 83-acre parcel of land where it plans to construct a small village with homes and retail properties.

National parks are meant to be preserved for the enjoyment of all Americans, not parceled out for commercial gain. Yosemite welcomes more than four million visitors each year, supporting local economies and providing jobs while maintaining its commitment to conservation. Expanding private development near this treasured landscape risks upsetting the delicate balance between economic benefits and environmental protection.

We must stand together to ensure that private interests do not overshadow the public good. Therefore, I urge the Department of the Interior and other concerned authorities to reject any proposals that would encourage development affecting Yosemite's natural character.

Protecting this irreplaceable ecosystem preserves not only the land itself but also an important part of our national heritage. Keeping these lands public ensures that future generations can experience the same sense of awe and inspiration that draws millions of visitors to Yosemite each year.
