Protect Yoruba from Extremist Indoctrination: Enforce Regulation of Informal Schools

The Issue

Say No to the Radicalisation of Children in the Name of Religion.

We, the concerned citizens of South West Region, are calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Ministry of Education, and the National Security Adviser to take urgent action against the growing radicalisation of children in the South-West informal Arabic schools and religious centers.

Across several regions, vulnerable children—some as young as six—are being taught extremist interpretations of religious texts, with verses and rhetoric that glorify violence, martyrdom, and hatred for others. This dangerous indoctrination puts their lives, our communities, and national unity at grave risk.

We wish to be clear:
🕌 This is not a campaign against Islam, Arabic education, or any faith.
This is a campaign against the manipulation of young minds by violent ideologies hiding under the cover of religion.

📢 We are demanding the following:

✅ The urgent regulation and licensing of all informal Arabic and religious schools (Almajiri or otherwise) across South-West Nigeria.
✅ The monitoring and review of curriculum taught to children in such institutions.
✅ The prosecution of clerics or instructors who teach hate speech, incite violence, or promote terrorism.
✅ A national deradicalisation program targeting affected youth.
✅ Stronger inter-agency collaboration between the Ministry of Education, security agencies, and community leaders to enforce reforms.

We are prepared to submit screenshots and evidence of materials where violent verses are being quoted or misused to glorify acts of terror. These references must be reviewed within the context of how they are taught to children, not as an attack on any scripture.

No child should grow up learning to hate, kill, or destroy.
Let us protect our children from mental colonisation by extremism.
