Protect Yavapai County: Stop Industrial Solar Expansion That Violates or Circumvents County Ordinances

Protect Our Land. Defend Our Property Rights. Hold Developers Accountable.

Yavapai County is facing increasing pressure from large-scale industrial solar developments that threaten to transform thousands of acres of our rural landscape.

While renewable energy has its place, industrial solar farms, nor their developers, should not be allowed to override existing zoning protections or compromise neighboring property owners.. There will be a permanent impact on our community. A permanent alteration to pristine and sacred ground.  Where are the direct benefits for the community? For the families sacrificing a way of life? Benefiting APS and their needs does nothing to improve our small community where APS power service is already monopolized.

We are not asking for special treatment. We are demanding that developers follow the same rules that residents and local businesses are expected to follow.

Our concerns include:

- Setback and zoning waivers: Developers should not receive special exemptions from established county ordinances designed to protect neighboring properties, public safety, and rural communities.
- Excessive land coverage: Thousands of acres of open land should not be converted into industrial solar facilities without reasonable limitations on development density, visual impacts, and environmental disturbance.
- Environmental impacts: Large-scale grading, vegetation removal, stormwater runoff, wildlife habitat disruption, and the long-term handling and disposal of solar panels and batteries deserve independent scrutiny.
- Property rights and property values: Neighboring landowners should not be forced to absorb the visual, environmental, and economic consequences of developments from which they receive little or no direct benefit.
- Alternative locations: Rooftops, parking lots, highway corridors, canals, and previously disturbed or developed land should be prioritized before converting vast stretches of Arizona's natural landscape.
- Government accountability: County officials must uphold existing ordinances, require transparency from developers, and give meaningful consideration to the residents most directly affected.

What We Are Asking Yavapai County Officials To Do

1. Enforce existing zoning ordinances and setback requirements without granting unjustified waivers or variances.
2. Establish reasonable limits on industrial solar development, including land coverage, grading, facility height, and proximity to neighboring properties.
3. Require comprehensive environmental, drainage, fire-safety, and decommissioning plans, backed by enforceable conditions and adequate financial assurances.
4. Require serious evaluation of alternative sites that minimize impacts on agricultural land, wildlife, rural communities, and private property.
5. Protect the public's voice by ensuring transparent hearings, accessible project information, and meaningful consideration of community opposition.

This Is About More Than Solar Energy

This is about responsible development, equal application of the law, private property rights, and preserving the Arizona landscape for future generations.

We can support energy innovation without sacrificing the rural communities, agricultural heritage, natural beauty, and individual freedoms that make Yavapai County special.

Our elected officials represent the people of Yavapai County—not the interests of industrial energy developers.

If you believe county ordinances should be enforced, property rights should be respected, and industrial development should be held to reasonable standards, please sign this petition.

Together, we can demand responsible development and protect the future of Yavapai County.

These projects are increasingly violating or circumventing county ordinances that were designed to ensure responsible development. These rules are meant to safeguard our land, water, and scenic views, but some developers are finding loopholes to bypass these essential protections. This negligence not only endangers our cherished environment but also undermines our property rights.

Yavapai County is known for its stunning landscapes, vast open spaces, and vibrant ecosystems that need our protection. Large-scale solar developments, when not properly regulated, can disrupt local habitats, alter water usage patterns, and significantly impact our quality of life. While we support renewable energy and recognize its importance, its implementation should not come at the cost of our community's values and local regulations.

Developers must be held accountable to the same strict standards that we, as residents, are required to abide by. We cannot allow industrial solar projects that ride roughshod over the regulations meant to maintain the harmony of our environment and community.

The citizens of Yavapai County deserve a transparent process wherein all stakeholders are considered, and where locals have a say in the projects that directly affect their lives. We demand that county officials rigorously enforce existing ordinances and scrutinize these projects closely to ensure compliance.

Join us in urging the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors to take immediate action to halt any solar developments that violate county rules. We are calling for increased oversight and adherence to established ordinances to protect our community from unregulated industrial expansion.

Please sign this petition to let local leaders know that we stand united against unauthorized industrial solar developments. Together, we can safeguard our county’s heritage and future.
