Protect Wildlife from Plastic Pollution

The Issue

Every time I see images of turtles struggling, trapped in plastics, it breaks my heart. They roam our oceans and lands, unknowingly consuming or getting ensnared in the waste we discard. This isn't just a distant tragedy; it's a crisis unfolding both globally and right here at home.

Our world is facing a critical challenge: the overwhelming amount of waste, especially plastic, threatening the lives of wildlife both on land and at sea. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an estimated 100 million marine animals die each year due to plastic debris. In Massachusetts, our ecosystems are particularly vulnerable, with countless species facing similar threats as they navigate our forests and coastal areas.

The increasing human population contributes significantly to this pollution. Every piece of plastic discarded can take hundreds of years to decompose, during which time it poses an ongoing threat to wildlife.

By implementing robust waste management practices and fostering community initiatives focused on sustainability, we can make a difference. Encouraging local policies that reduce plastic usage, such as bans on single-use plastics and incentives for recycling, will create a safer environment for our wildlife.

Join me in urging enact legislation focused on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices. Together, we have the power to protect our cherished wildlife and ensure a safer, cleaner world for future generations. Please sign this petition to demand action now.
