Growing up, horses were my passion. I spent countless hours riding and caring for these magnificent creatures, fostering a deep respect and admiration for their beauty and spirit. To me, horses symbolize freedom and strength, embodying a significant part of our American heritage and culture. Wild horses, in particular, are living icons of the American West, representing the very essence of our nation's history and the spirit of the Native American tribes, for whom these horses hold profound significance.

Sadly, the future of America's wild horses is under threat. Policies that favor aggressive roundups and removal are continuously diminishing their numbers and removing them from lands they have roamed for centuries. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), tasked with protecting these majestic animals, is often caught between conflicting interests, resulting in practices that harm rather than help the wild horse population.

According to recent reports, over 95,000 wild horses and burros remain on public rangelands today, struggling to survive in a landscape where they are increasingly squeezed out by livestock grazing and other commercial activities. This is unsustainable, and if these actions persist, future generations may never have the chance to witness these incredible animals roaming free as they were meant to be.

We must urge lawmakers and the BLM to implement humane and sustainable management practices that genuinely protect and preserve wild horse populations. Solutions such as fertility control, increased funding for sanctuaries, and the establishment of more wild horse preserves can foster a balanced ecosystem where both wildlife and human activities coexist responsibly. National policies must shift focus from removal to preservation, recognizing that wild horses are an integral part of our national heritage, deserving of protection and reverence.
