I have attached a link to the Council meeting I attended and spoke at last night.
5 Minutes is not a lot of time but I poured my heart into my speech and also used some of the reports and literature that the City of Whitehorse, Yukon had issued in the past from the OCP, Sustainability report and Parks and Rec Master Plan. I even highlighted how some of the proposed areas hold the subdivisions only playgrounds and skating rinks.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to stop council from proceeding with the feasibility studies to these proposed areas. It was a unanimous decision from council to go-ahead with the $300,000 studies for infill to our greenspaces. Disheartening to say the least.
My speech begins at about the 8 minute mark, followed by Doug from the Riverdale community association, who expressed their support for the proposed approach of completing a feasibility study - which I thought was interesting.
Towards the end of the video you can watch council approve the study. At about the 1 hour- 11 minute mark - There was a comment from Councilor Boyd, who joked if when the skating rinks are removed for the infill "a pickleball court" was suggested. To which there was laughter - as if this is a joke.
