The Issue

Our treasured green spaces within developed neighbourhood’s throughout Whitehorse, Yukon are under threat from infill building developments proposed by the City of Whitehorse. These areas are not just pieces of land; they are vital parts of our community that support healthy ecosystems and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

These green spaces serve as essential walking trails for our community, offering residents a peaceful refuge and a chance to connect with nature. They provide a sanctuary for the young generations in our community to play, explore, and learn about the wonders of the natural world. Protecting these areas means maintaining a unique balance between urban growth and the preservation of our natural heritage.

Moreover, the existence of these green belts directly impacts the equity and value of our properties. Many of us have invested our hard-earned money into homes with the understanding that the forests and trails behind our residences will remain untouched, bringing both aesthetic and intrinsic value to our neighborhoods.

If these cherished spaces are developed, not only do we risk losing a crucial part of our environment, but we also risk diminishing the integrity and value of our community as a whole. We must stand together as residents of Whitehorse to ensure the City of Whitehorse hears our voices and protects these treasured landscapes for current and future generations.

Join us in urging the City of Whitehorse to reconsider their development plans and prioritize the protection of Whitehorse’s invaluable green spaces. Sign this petition to show your support for our environment, our community, and our future.
