The Issue
We love where we live.
Cornelius is a special community defined by its neighborhoods, parks, green spaces, and waterfront character. Thoughtful planning has helped make our town one of the most desirable places to live in the Lake Norman region.
Today, increasing pressure to rezone residential land for commercial use threatens the character of the neighborhoods and puts our community identity at risk. Commercial use can bring more traffic, strain infrastructure, reduce green space, impact property values/resale and alter the qualities that make Cornelius unique.
Our town already has a community-driven land use plan designed to guide responsible growth while protecting established neighborhoods. We believe that plan should be respected with responsible, balanced growth. Our message to town leaders is simple:
KEEP "GENERAL RESIDENTIAL" PROPERTY RESIDENTIAL.
Once residential neighborhoods are converted to commercial uses, they rarely return.
Help protect what we love—for current residents, future generations, and the quality of life that brought us here in the first place.
