We, the undersigned residents of Waukegan, are deeply concerned about recent ICE activity in our city. Reports indicate that ICE agents have been detaining people, including U.S. citizens without probable cause , creating fear in our community and violating constitutional rights.

We ask the City of Waukegan to take IMMEDIATE action to protect residents and ensure that at least our public spaces remain safe and welcoming:

• Issue an immediate Mayoral executive order prohibiting ICE from entering city-owned property: schools, libraries, parks, community centers, and other facilities without a valid judicial warrant.
• Direct city employees not to assist or provide access to ICE without proper legal authorization.
• Work with local Community Activist Groups, Nonprofit Organizations, Small Business Owners and local volunteers to assemble a task force committed to providing residents of Waukegan with transparency and accountability by reporting ICE presence and actions in the city. The task force should also be responsible for providing “Know Your Rights” materials as well as rapid legal support for residents approached or detained by ICE.
  
  These measures are necessary to protect constitutional rights, ensure public safety, and maintain trust between residents and local government.

We, the undersigned, urge Mayor Cunningham and the City Council to take these actions immediately to protect the residents of Waukegan.
