Protect Watery Hill Steps

The Issue

We call on Louth County Council to protect our public space from being lost to private interests.

The Watery Hill Steps are a vital, centuries-old public pathway in Drogheda, used daily by our community. The dangerous, unstable slope next to the steps has been deemed an "unacceptable health and security risk” by state planning authorities.

Recent unsuccessful development plans would have removed public access entirely, handing our public space over to private control.

Despite this, the area remains zoned for development, raising fears that our public access to the steps could be lost or privatised.

We demand the Council:

Stop Privatisation: Permanently guarantee the Watery Hill Steps as a public right of way. Do not allow this vital community link to be closed off or controlled by private development.
Ensure Public Safety: Rezone the dangerous embankment to Open Space to prevent collapse of the unstable slope, secure existing houses and apartments.
Protect Our Heritage: Legally protect the Steps and the surrounding area to preserve our local history.

Sign now to defend our public spaces and keep the Watery Hill Steps open for everyone, forever.
