Protect Vesta Tilley House, Lowesmoor- Get it locally listed!
The Issue
As a local resident and Councillor I am deeply invested in preserving our rich history and heritage, I am alarmed by the threat posed to Vesta Tilley House, 77 Lowesmoor, Worcester. This building is not just bricks and mortar; it stands as a testament to our past and an integral part of our community's identity. Despite Historic England's praise for this important local landmark, it remains unprotected from potential development.
Vesta Tilley House is a handsome building, originally a Music Hall opened in 1869, and now part of Worcester’s Canal Conservation Area. Named after the music hall star of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this is the last remaining building associated with Vesta Tilley in the city of her birth, all others being long since demolished. The young Vesta performed on this building’s stage, following in her father’s footsteps, before finding international stardom.
Lowesmoor is a conservation area that should be preserved for future generations. The destruction of such buildings would be an irreversible loss to the character of our city. There are countless fantastic un-listed buildings all over the country that need protection - Vesta Tilley House being one prime example.
This petition calls on local authorities to recognize the importance of protecting these historical sites by locally listing Vesta Tilley House and safeguarding it from inappropriate development. Our history is not something we can afford to lose; once gone, it cannot be replaced or replicated.
We now have an opprtunity to locally list this building before a further application goes in.
Please join me in urging those with decision-making power to protect this significant piece of Worcester's heritage. Sign this petition today!
