Protect Uninterrupted Education and Safe School Access for Nearly 5,000 Students
The Issue
OUR APPEAL
Nearly 5,000 students attend two large schools in the P & T Colony area of Dombivli (East).
The only approach to these schools is through a very narrow private road, already heavily congested with students, parents, residents and school buses.
Around 40 school buses make nearly 120 movements every day on this same road.
We now understand that a large-scale multi-storeyed construction may soon begin on a plot adjoining the school entrance.
If construction starts, the same narrow road will also have to accommodate: JCBs • Dumpers • Heavy Trucks • Concrete Mixers • Construction Material • Debris Vehicles
This could create an extremely serious situation.
WHAT COULD HAPPEN?
• Severe traffic congestion and complete bottlenecks
• Greater accident risk for children and pedestrians
• School buses getting blocked or delayed
• Difficulty for ambulances and fire engines to enter
• Continuous drilling, piling and construction noise during school hours
• Dust and air pollution affecting students and staff
• Serious disturbance to classroom teaching and examinations
• Years of disruption, as large construction projects continue for a long period
The road is already so narrow that, at several points, there is practically space for only one school bus to move at a time.
Adding heavy construction traffic to this road could make the normal functioning of the schools extremely difficult.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT OPPOSING DEVELOPMENT
We are not against lawful development.
But development cannot come at the cost of the safety, health and education of thousands of children.
The existing access problem has been brought to the notice of the authorities several times in the past, but it remains unresolved.
Before allowing any major new construction, the authorities must ensure that the schools can continue to function safely, smoothly and without disruption.
OUR REQUEST
We respectfully request KDMC and the concerned Government authorities to:
• Do not permit any major construction activity that can endanger students or disrupt school functioning.
• Consider the impact on nearly 5,000 students, school buses, pedestrians and nearby residents before granting any permission.
• Protect clear access for school buses, ambulances and fire engines.
• Ensure that noise, dust, traffic and construction activity do not interfere with regular schooling.
• Find and implement an effective solution before allowing any activity that may worsen the present situation.
OUR MESSAGE IS SIMPLE
PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.
PROTECT SAFE ACCESS TO SCHOOL.
PROTECT UNINTERRUPTED EDUCATION.
This issue affects thousands of families.
Please sign and share this petition so that the concerns of parents, students and residents are heard before the situation becomes irreversible.
