Protect UK Seasonal Agricultural Workers

Protect UK Seasonal Agricultural Workers
The Issue
Fair food starts with fair treatment, and we’re not there yet.
Temporary migrant workers are the backbone of our agriculture industry. Without them, we wouldn't have the fresh produce we enjoy every day. Yet too many face below-minimum wages, unsafe and overcrowded housing, and long hours with no job security. Behind every basket of fruit is a person who deserves dignity, safety, and fair pay.
Temporary migrant workers play an essential role in filling labor shortages, particularly in agriculture. However, despite their critical contributions, these workers often endure harsh realities that compromise their safety, dignity, and livelihoods. Often, they encounter substandard living conditions, where overcrowding is common and safety measures lacking, putting them at risk. Many are paid far less than the minimum wage, making it hard for them to support themselves and their families.
Furthermore, they work grueling hours without the assurances of job security or adequate rest periods. These workers contribute to the food we eat, and it is vital that their rights and well-being are protected. Fair pay and safe working conditions should not be optional; they are human rights.
We urge policymakers to conduct a comprehensive review of the Seasonal Worker visa program. This review should focus on enforcing fair minimum wages, ensuring safe and decent housing, and providing job security and adequate working hours for temporary migrant workers. Furthermore, there must be mechanisms established to hold employers and supermarkets accountable who fail to meet these standards.
It is time to ensure fair food comes from fair and just treatment of those who work tirelessly to provide it. By signing this petition, you help advocate for the rights and safety of temporary migrant workers. Your signature is a step towards justice and equity in our food systems. Please sign this petition and be the change for a fairer future.
