The Issue

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Headquarters of IDEA Public Schools to allow the continued use of school buses that currently drop off and pick up students at the Hidalgo Port of Entry.

Every day, many U.S. citizen students who live in Mexico cross the bridge to attend school in the United States. This routine is essential to our education, our safety, and our ability to arrive at school on time. For years, the designated bus area at the Hidalgo bridge has made this possible.

Recently, there was a propose of removing access for these buses, citing concerns about students “making a mess” and referencing the 8‑mile rule as justification. This decision would disrupt the education of students who already rely on this transportation system and who have established daily routines built around it.

Disrupting this access would jeopardize students’ ability to attend school consistently and safely. One student shared, “Without the bus stop at the bridge, I’d have to walk miles just to reach the nearest pickup point. I don’t know how I’d make it to school on time.” These are real lives and real futures at stake.

Many of the students who rely on this service are not only dedicated learners but active contributors to IDEA schools. They volunteers, participate in extracurricular programs, and many rank within the top 10% of their classes. These students leave a mark in the school, and maintaining the access to transportation is essential to supporting their continued success.

We are not asking to accept additional buses or expand the current system if they do not wish to. We are simply asking that the buses already serving students be allowed to continue operating as they always have. Removing them would create unnecessary hardship for students who are doing nothing more than exercising their right to attend school in the country of their citizenship.

We urge the Headquarters  to recognize the importance of these services and permit the buses to continue their operations without interruption. Please sign this petition to support the seamless continuation of school bus services at the designated Hidalgo bridge area, ensuring safety and reliability for all students who depend on them every day.
