Make Tiger Beach a National Park

Make Tiger Beach a National Park
Why this petition matters
Tiger Beach is internationally renowned as the best location in the world for diving with Large Sharks. Footage and photos from Tiger Beach are seen around the globe used in movies, documentaries, TV, and environmental campaigns. It is a unique area where people have been diving for two decades with the large female and often pregnant Tiger Sharks that gather there every year. Divers from around the world come to see these charismatic Sharks. There are also other species of Shark such as Caribbean reef, Lemon, Nurse, Bull, and Great Hammerhead Shark along with many species of vulnerable corals, turtle grass, conch, nudibranch, sea turtle, dolphin, crawfish, and reef fish. All of this is situated in shallow, clear aquamarine water with a variety of sea bed from white rippling sand, lush sea grass fields, steep walls, impressive wrecks and vibrant coral reefs.
Both The Bahamas National Trust, Bahamas Protected, and The Nature Conservancy proudly use photos and footage from Tiger Beach within campaigns to gain support for the goal of the Caribbean Challenge Initiative to protect 20% of the Caribbean by 2020. The Bahamas along with the help of these NGO's are currently surveying new areas to protect as National Parks. We would like to propose this world famous dive site as a future Marine Protected Area. Making Tiger Beach a No Take Zone will safeguard biodiversity and a thriving tourism based economy.
