We’re pleased to share, and deeply grateful for, the attention this issue is now receiving. The Healdsburg Patch has published an article on our community’s effort to stop high-temperature residential waste incinerators from being installed on the Sonoma Coast and in our state parks.
This coverage is important. The public deserves to know that County of Sonoma is currently permitting these devices with no environmental review, despite the fact that they burn waste at 1,600°F and can release forever chemicals, heavy metals, and other combustion byproducts into the air. These contaminants don’t simply disappear, they settle into our water, soil, and oceans, where they can persist for decades.
This matters for every coastal resident, every family, and especially for Sonoma County’s agricultural industry. PFAS “forever chemicals” and heavy metals do not play nice with organic farming. Once they enter the environment, they can contaminate crops, threaten certifications, and alter the region’s farming economy permanently.
