The Issue

We, the residents, workers, and community members of Skagit county stand together in solidarity to protect our neighbors, families, and coworkers from the escalating and disruptive actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. (ICE)

Growing up and living in Skagit County, I've developed a profound appreciation for the vibrant, caring, and resilient community we have. This place isn't just where we live, it's a collective of neighbors, friends, and families who look out for one another. It's a special bond that makes Skagit County more than just a location but a home. I care deeply about the well-being of everyone here, and it's this sense of camaraderie and care that propels me to take action.

In Skagit County 2025 there were 29 ICE arrests. During the summer spike of 2026, at least 15+ more “illegal” immigrants have been arrested.  ICE has proven time and time again that they do not follow the law or proper procedures when it comes to targeted arrests. They are not targeting criminals, but our families and coworkers. This is a serious matter that can only be stopped by our community taking real action.

Data from the U.S Census shows that 20.8% of Skagit county identifies as Hispanic, and 36.8% just in Mount Vernon. Our Hispanic & Latino neighbors are an essential, inseparable part of our city’s cultural identity.
The current spike in federal immigration raids and community sweeps directly threatens more than one-third of our population.

Washington state’s “ Keep Washington Working Act”  bans local police from interfering or stopping ICE agents, but when 20.8% of our population is under threat, we are all under threat. We urge our local police departments and civic leaders, Mt. Vernon Mayor Peter Donovan, Offices of Carol L. Edward & Associates, Burlington Mayor Bill Aslett, & Burlington head chief, Mike Luvera, and U.S. Representative Rick Larsen to stand with us and ensure our streets remain safe.

I urge you to fight back.

I will be attending every public comment period at the board of commissioners to address this situation.  If you want to speak up I encourage you to do so.
You can attend every public comment on Tuesday @ 11:30 am      Location - 1805 Continental Place Mount Vernon, WA 98273
