Protect the Shoppes at Parma from becoming a data center
The Issue
I've lived in Parma Ohio for almost 20 years and I've always cherished the community feel it offers. The Shoppes at Parma, formerly known as Parmatown Mall, is a hub of local activity—it's where we gather, shop, and create memories that last a lifetime. Recently, it has come to my attention that Axiom Realty, part of Axiom Ai Group, has purchased the Shoppes at Parma for $85 million. Axiom Ai Group is reputed for transforming sites into industrial data centers, which raises concerns for our beloved community.
While we are aware that no plans have been announced, we are also aware of axiom realty/axiom Ai groups ultimate goal and purpose........scouting for and acquiring parcels of land for data center construction.
The prospect of converting the Shoppes at Parma into a data center is alarming for multiple reasons. Data centers are known to impose significant burdens on neighboring communities. Residents in areas with data centers often report issues such as discolored water and low water pressure due to excessive water consumption by the centers. The heavy energy usage can also lead to increased local pollution and noise, disrupting the peace in our neighborhoods.
The Shoppes at Parma is just a stone’s throw away from dense residential areas. Convenient access to shops and local businesses is a vital part of what makes living in Parma so enjoyable. A large industrial data center in such proximity to our homes threatens the fabric of our community. We run the risk of losing a critical local amenity that not only serves our day-to-day needs but also provides a sense of belonging and togetherness.
It's time to make our voices heard. We must urge Axiom Realty to reconsider their plans for the Shoppes at Parma, or if they have no plans in place as of now.......stop it before it starts.
The goal of this petition is to to be several steps ahead and stop anything before its even a thought and to make it clear that we the people of Parma will not tolerate it.
Let’s call upon our city leaders and council to safeguard our community spaces and ensure they remain beneficial to the residents. There are alternative locations better suited for such industrial projects—locations that would not endanger our daily lives or the essence of our community.
Join me in taking a stand against the transformation of the Shoppes at Parma into a data center. Let's protect our neighborhood, our water, and our way of life for ourselves and future generations. Sign this petition to urge Axiom Realty and the local government to preserve our community spaces.
