Protect the Safety of Public School Children

The Issue

The Everett School District has allowed a Christian Nationalist organization to take public school children out of school during public school hours - with little oversight and no vetting process of the organization’s employees who have direct access to children.

LifeWise claims it is a “nondenominational” organization providing character and Bible education. The truth is that its curriculum was created by the Southern Baptist Convention, and it has documented ties to the hate group Family Research Council, Project 2025, and Moms for Liberty, to name but a few. It disapproves of single-parent households, shuns minority religions and atheists, and is firmly anti-LGBTQIA.

The national parent organization’s own “vetting process” is demonstrably lax - one chapter hired a known sex offender as a program director, and another chapter attempted to host its program in a warehouse where sex offenders would have had direct access to children. The local chapter uses the same vetting company as set by the parent organization.

Everett, WA is a vibrant community characterized by its rich diversity and welcoming spirit. Until now, the Everett School District has worked hard to reflect these values, fostering an inclusive environment where children from all walks of life can learn and grow together. However, the District has walked back from protecting all students by allowing this organization, and other similar groups, to take students out of school - during public school hours - for indoctrination. Allowing these activities indirectly endorses religious favoritism, which contradicts the principles of equality and inclusivity that the Districts claims to uphold.

Let us stand together to ensure Everett schools remain welcome places  of inclusivity and diversity, defending the rights of all its students to have an uninterrupted and equitable educational experience. Join us in calling on the Everett School District to take immediate action to protect our children and schools from these harmful disruptions. Together, we can ensure that our educational system reflects the values of a diverse and united community.
