The river Doshnica, nestled in the serene Kozhuf mountain, is not just a river but a thriving ecosystem and home to several endemic species of fish, cancer (genus) and wildflowers. It's a sanctuary for honeybees, making it a vital part of the natural heritage of Gevgelija, Macedonia. However, this pristine environment is under threat from proposed construction of two small hydroelectric centrals named "Barov dol" and "Paprad", aiming for a combined capacity of 2 MW.

While renewable energy is important, it should not come at the cost of destroying unique habitats. The construction of these hydroelectric plants will disrupt the natural flow of the river, endanger the survival of its endemic species, and alter the landscape irreversibly. It’s crucial to weigh the environmental preservation against such developmental ventures and find a sustainable alternative that protects this area.

Kozhuf mountain and the river Doshnica must be preserved not only for their biodiversity but also for future generations who deserve to experience this natural wonder. Alternative solutions, such as assessing more environmentally sustainable locations for such projects, should be thoroughly explored.
