I am a resident of Rockford, IL and I strongly believe that anyone who harms or kills a K9 officer should face the same consequences as if they had done so to a human officer. These brave dogs didn't choose their line of duty - it was chosen for them. They put their lives on the line every day to protect our community and deserve recognition for their service.

K9 officers play an essential role in law enforcement across America. According to the National Police Dog Foundation, there are approximately 50,000 working police dogs in the United States. These dogs are trained to perform duties such as tracking criminals, detecting drugs and explosives, finding lost people, and protecting their handlers.

Despite this valuable service they provide to our communities, when a K9 officer is killed in action they do not receive the same level of respect or justice as their human counterparts. This is unjust and needs to change.

We need legislation that recognizes these heroic animals for what they truly are – officers of law enforcement who risk their lives for our safety. We demand equal rights for K9 officers in Rockford, IL including appropriate legal repercussions for those who harm them.
