Hi team!

In celebration of reaching 7000 signatures, let's join together in our first COLLECTIVE ACTION. It has the potential to make a big difference in the campaign, and it will take less than ten minutes of your time!

Here's the deal:

Highland Copper currently has a $43 million market valuation; that may seem like a lot, but they need a minimum of $390 million to begin construction. They plan to take out a loan for half of that total— isn't that nice? using money you don't have to devastate the natural world? In addition, they need to secure bonding— basically, a larger company insuring their operation with hundreds of millions of dollars. In other words, they are scrambling for cash, and if they don't get that money, they can't build their damn mine.

In this presentation made by Highland Copper to potential investors, a question was raised by someone in the audience: "What is the social acceptability of the mine?" That's right: before shilling out for a project, investors want to know how much public opposition there is. You can see Highland Copper's representative stumble and bumble in reply— "There will always be a bit of noise," he says. Keep in mind, this was before we even started our campaign. Let's show them some real noise!

A widely opposed project is clearly a bad investment. Therefore, by convincing Highland's investors that this project is NOT socially acceptable but in fact will encounter widespread resistance, we may be able to influence how they use their funds, whether in retracting current investments or in holding off in the future. In short, the more the mining industry knows about our campaign, the more hesitant they will be to waste their precious $$$ on this disaster.

So here's what we're going to do. Directly below is a list of many of the e-mail addresses of Highland Copper's most important investors:

ir@condirellc.com,info@greenstoneresources.com,info@osiskogr.com,investor.info@dundeeprecious.com,jcameron@dundeeprecious.com,info@kinterracapital.com,corporatedevelopment@kinterracapital.com,investors@kinterracapital.com, jcomfort@greenstoneresources.com, ir@orionrp.com

Step one: Copy and paste this list in the To: field of a new e-mail.

Step two: Write a message telling these guys to back out while they still can. Keep in mind, this is not a crazy idea— writing to investors is standard practice in such campaigns.

Here's an example of a message you might send:

SUBJECT: Invest in Highland Copper at your own risk

"To whom it may concern:

We understand that you are a principal investor in Highland Copper's Copperwood Mine project. In choosing how to invest your capital, an important concern is confidence in a project's ability to progress forward. One of the main hurdles of any new mining endeavor is social acceptability. Unfortunately, the Copperwood Mine is one of the least socially acceptable projects you could invest in and is already encountering massive resistance.

The mine would be developed at the meeting place of Lake Superior –– which represents a full 10% of the world's surface freshwater –– and Porcupine Mountain State Park, ranked last year as "the most beautiful State Park in America" — as well as the North Country Trail, the longest of all point-to-point national hiking trails. These are three WORLD CLASS RESOURCES— does it really seem like a good place for a mine?

Not just that, but do these seem like the right guys to do it? Highland Copper is a junior company with ZERO EXPERIENCE developing a mine, yet they want the community to trust them in building a tailings disposal facility holding 50+ million tons of waste-rock on topography that slopes towards Lake Superior— even a toddler could tell you that's a terrible idea.

In addition to ecological risks, the mine would disrupt a thriving outdoor recreation industry. People come to the North Country Trail and Porcupine Mountains State Park specifically seeking an escape from air pollution, light pollution, and noise pollution, and the mine would provide all of these in ample quantity. As can be seen from this petition, there are many thousands of people rallying against the mine, and the campaign to raise awareness has only been running a few months. Do you really think a project this risky is going to acquire the remaining $350 million required to begin construction, let alone the necessary bonding? Who would be foolish enough to provide that kind of funding?

It is therefore advisable for any sane investment firm to retract all current capital holding shares in Highland Copper and refrain from wasting further capital in the future. You might as well invest in a sinking ship.

We write these words to you with your best interest in mind. For more information, visit www.ProtectThePorkies.com

Sincerely,
Chris Vaughn"

My message was long; yours could be short. Mine was polite; yours could be rude. The details don't really matter—  The important thing is to send the message! Most likely, they aren't going to read all of our individual messages; the real message is the quantity of emails they will receive. Of the 7000+ signatures on this petition, imagine if even 5% of us write to these investors; imagine the looks on their faces when they open their inboxes in the morning!

Please do not copy and paste, but write your own version. Use the website if you need inspiration. For maximum impact, try to include these key points in the message:

  • There is massive resistance against this project and we are just getting started
  • It is an ecological disaster
  • It is an economic disaster
  • Link to the petition; link to the website
  • Write the message in your own personal style!

Alright team, that's all for now. If you are particularly proud of your e-mail, feel free to forward it to us at ProtectThePorkies@gmail.com

This is just the first of many planned collective actions. We will hold another for every 1000 signatures, and sometimes more often if an urgent situation arises.

Until next time!
