Protect the Military. Impeach Hegseth.
The Issue
This petition calls for the immediate investigation and impeachment of Peter B. Hegseth, Secretary of Defense.
Peter B. Hegseth has, repeatedly, proven that he has neither the ability nor the leadership skills to lead the United States military and, through his own decisions, actions and lack of courage, has recklessly endangered the lives of US servicewomen and men, resulting in unnecessary deaths, injuries and destruction.
This petition calls for the investigation and impeachment of Secretary Hegseth on several grounds to include:
- Allegations of willfully participating in and directing the initiation and escalation of armed hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran in direct contravention of Article 1 of the Constitution, which vests in the Congress the sole power to declare war.
-Allegations of authorizing, condoning or failing to prevent the use of military force in a manner inconsistent with the law of armed conflict, such as operations resulting in large numbers of civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Iran, including a girls’ school in Minab;
- Allegations of undermining or disregarding established rules of engagement designed to minimize harm to noncombatants, including illegal “double tap” strikes in the southern Caribbean; and
- Allegations of engaging in conduct that raises serious concerns of possible violations of the Geneva Conventions and other binding legal obligations of the United States, including by stating that the United States shall give “no quarter, no mercy for our enemies,” which, in several areas of both national and international law, can be construed as an unlawful command.
- Demonstrating gross negligence in the handling of sensitive and, allegedly, classified military information, including through the use of unsecured communications systems like the Signal app to transmit or discuss operational details in flagrant contravention of United States law and military standards
- Compromising operational security and placing United States personnel at risk through this careless and improper conduct.
- Allegedly directing or engaging in efforts to obstruct the constitutional oversight responsibilities of Congress by:
(1) allegedly failing to provide timely and complete information regarding military operations;
(2) allegedly withholding material facts relating to civilian casualties and operational conduct in Iran, Venezuela, and other military theaters
For all of the aforementioned allegations of crimes, transgressions and more, this petition calls on Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to immediately begin proceedings to investigate and, if needed, prosecute and impeach Peter B. Hegseth.
