The Issue

The Masai Mara is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth — a home for wildlife, a heritage for the Maasai people, and a wonder shared with the world. But today, it is under threat: from uncontrolled tourism, reckless development, and the loss of vital wildlife corridors.

This month, shocking scenes from the Mara went viral — tourists leaving vehicles, blocking wildebeest crossings, and disrupting the migration under the supervision of negligent guides. This is not just a safety issue. It’s a symbol of deeper mismanagement that risks destroying the Mara itself.

We, people who love the Mara and the natural world, say: enough is enough. The Mara cannot continue without proper protection.

We demand:

 1. Stronger enforcement & accountability — Narok County Council and Kenya Wildlife Service must immediately strengthen ranger presence, enforce rules against reckless guiding, and hold offenders accountable.

 2. Tourism regulation — Safari operators, guides, and lodges must commit to ethical practices, with penalties for violations.

 3. Protection of wildlife corridors — Stop unplanned development and safeguard the critical migration routes that wildlife depend on.

 4. Long-term conservation plan — Developed with Indigenous Maasai leadership, conservation NGOs, and tourism partners to ensure that economic benefit does not come at the cost of wildlife survival.

The Mara belongs not just to Kenya, but to humanity and future generations. If we lose it, we lose one of Earth’s last great migrations, and a piece of our shared natural heritage.

We will not stay silent. We will hold leaders, operators, and partners accountable until the Mara is protected.
