Act up, Fight HIV/AIDS! End the epidemic in one generation!

The Issue

I am writing to you on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community in hopes of fostering an open dialog about some issues that affect our community today. Over the past few years we have many bills passed due to our fear of the Covid-19 pandemic. The language in these bills are concerning for many reasons and grant the administration broad and unprecedented powers to track and stop the spread of "viruses". However, none of these bills specifically mentioned Covid-19 by name. Are we to assume they will be using these funds to combat any and all transmitable viruses, including HIV? If this is the case, we would like to know the extent, scope, and strategies being implemented in our community at large.

Should law enforcement be allowed use the same the tactics and strategies our in our community to fight HIV as they use in all other crimes; theft, drugs, or fraud. For instance- when they want to bust drug dealers they typically set up a lower level dealer and use them as criminal informats to go after a bigger fish. Whats the harm? Drugs are typically a short term high with little long term health implications if not repeated. So green lighting a drug dealer to continue to sell in hopes of shutting down the larger operation doesn't seem so bad in the grand scheme of things right!

The question I ask is this. Should these same tactics to be used in combating all crimes? Such as their war on HIV or any infectious decease?

While we have not seen any additional resources announced publicly to help our community, we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of violent crimes being reported. Does this mean that our administration has adopted a policy of incarceration in stead of prevention or cure?

With your help and partnering with several other LGBTQIA+ organizations nationwide we will be starting this petition designed to push the administration for transparency and new legislation to safeguard our community and the future development of our great nation. Lets take on the drug companies to get Prep affordable for everyone. Our tax dollars have paid to develop these drugs which are sold in other countries for as low as 10 dollars a month. We are seeking to partner with any legislator who shares the same vision for our great nation as we do.  Please submit in writing the answers to the questions we asking along with your commitment to keeping our country safe for all its current and future residents. We look forward to working with. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Brian Geist
