Protect the homeless community in the Gatton RV park
The issue
I am reaching out for your support to protect the homeless community residing in the RV park in Gatton, who are currently at risk of being unfairly removed due to false accusations and stigma. As a member of this community, I have witnessed firsthand the inappropriate and, frankly, unfounded accusations made by the manager of a nearby kindergarten and local authorities.
Recently, two residents of our park were accused of inappropriate behavior near the kindergarten—a slanderous portrayal that harms not only the individuals involved but our entire community. One of the accused, a traveller, has held respected positions in the Gatton community for over four decades. The other, a homeless individual, does have police encounters, but none related to the current allegations. These accusations lack basis and paint our diverse community in an unfair light.
On multiple instances, I have noticed that the staff of the kindergarten not only exacerbate tensions but also directly contribute to the hostile environment that has become pervasive in the area. There are days when discussions become heated, yet many of these instances are escalated by the staff, sometimes right in front of the very children they claim to protect.
The dignity and respect of all individuals, irrespective of their housing status, must be preserved. It's essential to reconsider the management of the kindergarten and assess whether their actions and accusations are indeed protective of the children or simply deteriorating community relations.
We cannot allow these false reports and negative perceptions to result in the loss of the safety and security the RV park provides to vulnerable members of our society. Instead, let's strive to foster a more inclusive and understanding community by holding the appropriate parties accountable and ensuring fair treatment and respect for all.
Please stand with us in urging local authorities and the kindergarten management to reevaluate their positions and protect the rights of the homeless residing at the Gatton RV park. Your signature can help bring change and support justice. Sign this petition to defend the integrity and safety of our community!
