We are asking Cardiff Council to urgently review a change that is already altering the character of Rhiwbina Garden Village.

Y Groes is not just a green space. It is part of the fabric of village life.

It is where children walk past on their way to school.

Where families gather around the Christmas tree and sing carols.

Where elements of the Rhiwbina Festival have taken place over the years.

Where people sit, talk, and enjoy quiet, everyday moments - including lazy summer picnics.

These spaces matter because they are shared. They belong to all of us.

Rhiwbina Garden Village has long been recognised as one of the best places to live in Wales. Its open greens, simple design and uncluttered spaces are what make it special - even forming the backdrop to a Christmas scene in Doctor Who.

The recent installation of a dense, continuous line of bollards has fundamentally changed the feel of this space. What was once open and informal now feels enclosed, controlled and visually dominated.

It gives the impression of a problem that simply does not exist at this scale. This is not a space overrun by quad bikes or dangerous driving. It is a well-loved, well-used village green.

If you care about the character of Rhiwbina Garden Village, this matters.

We are asking the council to:

Pause any further installation
- Review the current scheme
- Remove or significantly reduce the number of bollards
- Work with residents to find a more proportionate and sympathetic solution

This is an opportunity to put this right - to protect the green while preserving the character of the village we all value.
