Protect the Green, Keep Our Community Clean!
The Issue
PROTECT THE GREEN, KEEP OUR COMMUNITY CLEAN!
A clean and healthy environment is important to every community. It gives us clean air, water, food, and a safe place to live. However, environmental problems can be seen even in our own surroundings. One issue that needs attention is the improper disposal of garbage in abandoned areas and pieces of land where waste is not regularly collected.
I have personally noticed that some people leave their garbage in these areas because there is no regular collection or proper place where they can dispose of it. As the garbage continues to pile up, some people resort to burning it. This makes the problem worse because burning garbage can release harmful smoke and pollutants into the air and can affect the health of people and the quality of our surroundings.
This is also a concern in the Philippines as a whole. The country generates around 61,000 metric tons of solid waste every day, and plastic makes up a significant portion of this waste. The World Bank has also reported that the Philippines generates approximately 2.7 million tons of plastic waste each year. These numbers show that proper waste management is an issue that requires action from both communities and individuals.
We believe that our community can take practical steps to address this problem. We are asking our barangay officials to help strengthen regular garbage collection, identify areas where waste is commonly dumped, provide accessible waste-disposal options, organize community clean-up activities, and conduct information campaigns about proper waste segregation and the harmful effects of burning garbage.
As residents, we also have a responsibility. We can properly separate and dispose of our waste, reduce our use of single-use plastics, reuse and recycle materials, participate in clean-up activities, and encourage others to do the same.
We are not asking for change that happens overnight. We are asking for small but meaningful actions that can make our community cleaner and healthier. By signing this petition, you are showing your support for better waste management and a safer environment in our community.
Let us take action where we live. Together, we can stop the buildup of waste, reduce the need for burning garbage, and help create a cleaner, greener, and healthier community for everyone and for future generations.
