Have Your Say… Stop Excessive Tree Clearing in Forestdale.

If you agree, please sign this petition NOW.

Keep the Forest in Forestdale.

Many residents of Forestdale are deeply concerned about the excessive clearing of large native trees and habitat trees, including those with essential hollows, on private properties in our community.

This alarming trend is causing irreversible damage to the unique ecosystem that defines Forestdale - a place we choose to call home for its natural beauty and rural charm.

By signing this petition, we, the residents of Forestdale, urge Logan City Council to immediately uphold the protection of our irreplaceable native trees and habitat trees.

We demand that the rural character of our acreage estate be preserved, as our zoning regulations clearly state that the built form should not dominate the natural landscape.

Together, we can ensure that Forestdale remains the vibrant, nature-filled community we cherish.

Disclaimer: It is recognised that a tree that poses immediate threat to property and/or are a risk to safety are exempt from this request. This petition does not seek to restrict renewal in Forestdale but to mitigate unnecessary and avoidable environmental damage.

Forestdale's ecological value as a suburb is worth advocating for…

As habitat loss continues to plague wildlife populations throughout SEQ it is imperative that urban environments like Forestdale play a part in providing adequate habitat for wildlife.

It cannot be underestimated how important these native trees and habitat trees are in our backyards, they are irreplaceable and they have been here longer than any of us.

Did you know…127 animal species in South East Queensland depend on tree hollows for shelter or nesting. It takes a minimum of 100 YEARS for hollows, big enough for small mammals, to form naturally. Habitat trees are being lost at a rapid rate which can lead to loss of local wildlife.

Large trees equally provide significant benefits to a shared community’s well-being; improving air quality, providing invaluable shade and healthy soil stability, they also provide natural wind breaks and sound barriers and reduce the ambient temperature beneath the canopy by up to 5 degrees. The above is only achieved if we have interconnected tree coverage that extends over multiple properties across our suburb.

Forestdale is naturally positioned within the regionally significant Karawatha-Greenbank-Flinders Peak corridor and has been noted as an extremely important stepping stone suburb for wildlife movement. As an established suburb it will not satisfy the "housing crisis' criteria being pushed within Logan at present, rather it offers a unique opportunity to have a suburb exemplify what a 'living with nature' residential area can look like.

It would be an irreplaceable loss and a profound shame to see Forestdale slowly destroyed. Don’t let our beautiful suburb lose its charm and unique environmental contribution…
